A Bit You Should Know

This blog is for my international travels (and cross-country if the situation calls for a blog post). This is the family friendly version of my adventures (Hi Mom). I hope to see and do as much as possible during my 5 months in Europe, and this blog will be my connection to anyone who wants to catch up on where I am/what I'm doing etc.

Happy Travels!

I Now Understand That Everyone But Americans Hates Americans

I can try and explain everything that has been happening to me, but quite frankly I think the whole European experience is so overwhelming that I almost have to physically harm myself as a remind that yes, I am in Europe and no, please don't add to the obnoxious American stereotype. Side-note before I really explain my past few days: Almost every single German stereotype is true, as is almost every single American stereotype. Touche. Everyone and I mean like 95% of all Germans are blonde, blue eyed (at least in Dresden, the largest accumulation of Neo Nazi's in the modern world...cute) tall, quiet, dark, and constantly look angry. Americans are obnoxious, giggly, loud, impatient, love to make a scene, naive, and mostly idiotic. Of course, as much as I would like to admit my BU Pre-Med group does not fall into any of these negative stereotypes...when we travel in a group of 35 we are all those things. And more. Really made me ashamed to be associated with America for a second.

Okay.

I live in this building with a bar in the basement like a 15 minute walk from the TUD campus, which by the way is completely and utterly beautiful. Yes, even more beautiful than BU or the BU Beach or hell, even Harvard, UCSD, and anything in the US. My room is a single, it is massive, like maybe comparable to my own room in Jersey. I share a kitchen with 5 other BU Science kids and a bathroom with 2 stalls and 2 showers. It's all in all very clean.

TUD Science/Admin Building

The past few days have been all about getting to know each other in the science program, buying bedding from the Ikea, discovering the city, etc. We went on a TUD campus tour, went on a nice tour of Dresden, which is breathtaking.

It pretty much doesn't get any more European, beautiful, and stereotypical. And YES. I saw people wearing ethnic lederhosen, eating pretzels and drinking beer. By the way, the beer is out of this world. And very cheap by international standards, especially at like the Gutz, which is a bar in my building (how convenient I know). The Germans are very proud of their gorgeous city center, or "Zentrum" even though it was completely destroyed by well...us...in WWII. It is nonetheless still breathtaking. We got a nice city tour and a history lesson...learned a lot about Augustus the ruler of Poland and Saxony.

Fantastico. Well, okay. I'm tired because its 2am here. Ill update later. Danke Schon!!
